The school year is winding down and children everywhere have one thing on their mind—summer vacation! Three whole months without classes, homework or bustling schedules. Of course, parents may be asking, “is there anything to help fill these summer days with enriching and entertaining actives?” Is there ever! With everything from camps and classes to special kid-friendly events, the Johnstown area has plenty of activities for children of all ages.

What’s more of a tip-of-the-hat to our area’s ethnic roots than Sunday polkas? Why, a whole weekend of polkas, of course! Now in its 11th year, Johnstown’s annual PolkaFest provides a great opportunity for kicking off a summer of music and fun in the city.

Summer is here and with it once again comes Johnstown’s Jazz Along the River. Now in its 11th year, Jazz Along the River is a free concert series providing food and entertainment on the fourth Friday of every month, from May through September.

These days we’re all more likely to catch a movie in the comfort of our own living room than to pack up and head to a theatre. You can stretch out; you can get comfortable; you can dine on fare outside of the typical popcorn, candy and soft drinks.
Of course, Johnstowners know that another way to get all of that and more is to visit the Westwood Plaza Theatre & Café.
James Mayer Riverwalk

One of the more obvious benefits to living and working in the Johnstown area is the region’s access to nature at its finest. The Alleghenies are filled with bicycle paths, trails for hiking and an uncounted variety of outdoor destinations and activities.
A trip outdoors doesn’t have to be a major excursion. Sometimes a little time on a small path can be just what the doctor ordered. So it is with the James Mayer Riverwalk. This trail, named after an area attorney who was dedicated to preserving the region’s natural resources, connects Johnstown’s Moxham neighborhood with the village of Riverside in Stonycreek Township.
Johnstown Municipal Golf Course

A quiet setting to enjoy the beautiful scenery while challenging your friends or yourself to a game of golf is a jewel in any city’s crown. One of Johnstown’s popular golfing destinations is the Johnstown Municipal Golf Course, also known as Berkley Hills Golf Course, located at 361 Goucher Street in Upper Yoder Township.
