Westmont Indoor Golf
Golf lovers who pine for the sunny days of spring and summer now have a new resource in Johnstown – Westmont Indoor Golf, where six state-of-the-art, life-size simulators allow golfers to play more than 50 famous courses from around the world.
The golfer looks into the course projected on a large screen, and uses a real golf ball and club to take a swing. Two cameras document the golfer’s every motion, and while the real ball lands against the screen, a projected version flies over the course and lands onscreen. Information on the screen will tell you details like club-head speed, ball speed and loft, and direction of the ball.
“It’s fantastic for golfers of any skill level – whether you’re looking to improve your game or just have some fun,” manager Todd Wagner says. “And obviously, the conditions are always perfect, because we’re indoors.”
Details of the 6,000-square-foot facility that help set the scene include green turf in front of each simulator, real golf carts for player seating and club storage, and wooden Adirondack chairs.
Four 60-inch TVs mounted high on the wall show sporting events. A full bar is available, and recently the facility began offering pizza, hot dogs, Italian sausages, pulled pork and other fairway food.
Reservations are accepted. Currently, Westmont Indoor Golf’s opening season is October through April, although Wagner notes that the season could be extended if demand is high during the warm-weather months.
Golfers may bring their own clubs, balls and tees, or rent from Westmont Indoor Golf. In addition, golf clinics and pro instruction are available for those serious about improving their game.
