The Festival of the Nativity has been a Johnstown tradition for more than 30 years, providing a welcome respite from the commercial aspects of Christmas for those looking to celebrate “the reason for the season.” The festival, which will be held at First Presbyterian Church on December 5-7, 2014, will feature more than 350 scenes depicting the birth of Christ, as well as musicians and choirs playing seasonal carols.

Cheers! The Sandyvale Wine Festival is gearing up for its second year at the Sandyvale Memorial Gardens & Conservancy with 12 wineries. More than 20 additional vendors will be in attendance at the September 13, 2014 event, most focusing on fine art, jewelry, and handmade items. Food vendors include the Boulevard Grill, Village Street Cafe, and Golden Catering.

Almost everyone who attends Johnstown’s Thunder in the Valley Motorcycle Rally is looking for places to ride as part of the four-day event. So as Thunder has grown, some nearby communities are cooperating with Thunder’s producer, the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention & Visitors Bureau, to hold their own motorcycle-themed events in conjunction with Thunder.
Ebensburg’s Wheels & Wings is one such satellite event. Now preparing for its 10th year, it’s presented by the Ebensburg Main Street Partnership on the Thursday evening of Thunder in the Valley, which falls on June 26, 2014.

When it comes to food festivals in our area, there are plenty of options throughout the year, but none may be as unique as the Laurel Highlands Annual Garlic Festival. This year will be the second incarnation of the festival, which takes place at Faranda’s Farm in Hollsopple, PA.

While our nation’s Memorial Day has passed by, our region will be remembering the working class heroes of the coal industry in Windber this month during the 12th annual Miners’ Memorial Day Festival. The event will take place Fathers’ Day weekend (Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 19) in downtown Windber. (more…)

Along with its warm weather and sunny days, spring also ushers in a new season of music festivals to enjoy. The Laurel Highlands Bluegrass Music Festival provides the perfect mix of live performances, good food, and entertaining activities for any bluegrass fan in the region.
The yearly festival is held at the Ligonier Township Fire Department Fairgrounds just a few miles outside of Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Enthusiasts are invited to camp out for the weekend at the convenient camping area not far from the stage and concert grounds. (more…)
