Johnstown Halloween Parade

Cool weather and falling leaves create a perfectly eerie atmosphere as the ghosts, vampires and superheroes of Cambria County prepare to make their yearly appearance. This unusual cast of characters will be found trolling through the streets of downtown Johnstown on October 24, 2013 for the annual Johnstown Halloween Parade.

As the parade enters its 44th year, it’s apparent that the community has embraced the event as a yearly tradition. And this year’s parade promises to be the largest yet, with over 130 units registered to participate, including 10 high school bands and over 50 floats. Ronald McDonald will make his first appearance in many years as he leads the parade down Main Street, only adding to the excitement of the event. (more…)

The Haunted Acres

When the sun slips behind the mountains and the chill in the air makes you pull your coat a little tighter, the once peaceful forest on Mindish Hill, Sidman, PA takes on a more sinister air. Every October, beneath this canopy of trees, lies a host of frights designed to startle and entertain the most hardened haunted house enthusiast.

Since 2009, The Haunted Acres has been serving up an outdoor Halloween experience that capitalizes on the freedom to frighten that only an absence of walls can deliver.


Ghosts of the Staple Bend Tunnel

This Halloween weekend you can get your fill of the macabre right at one of our local historic parks. On Saturday, October 30th, 2010 the Park Service will present “Ghosts of the Staple Bend Tunnel”. These hour-long tours will feature 19th Century historic railroad figures returned from the grave to speak on life (and death) along the Allegheny Portage Railroads.


An Evening of Poe

When you think about Edgar Allan Poe, what comes to mind? Perhaps ravens, stormy nights, or the thump, thump, thumping of the Tell-Tale Heart. Perhaps a chilly, dreary fall evening in the forest, as the final leaves are falling from the trees. That is just the type of haunted atmosphere you’ll find at The Dillweed Bed and Breakfast as they celebrate their annual “An Evening of Poe” event October 21-23.
